It’s snow surprise!
Did you know that the largest snowman that has ever been built was actually a snow woman? She was 122 foot tall and had skis for eyelashes. Quite a lady!
Or did you know that the largest snowflake ever seen was over a foot wide?! It fell in Montana, in 1887, and witnesses described it as being "larger than a milk pan". The snow often produces a variety of feelings. Children love it. Employers lose money because of it and the elderly find it more difficult to go out. Yet despite mixed feelings everyone agrees that there is something spellbindingly beautiful about a snow covered landscape. Its whiteness is so pure and snow laden trees and blanket covered fields make the perfect picture. Quite the opposite to the dirty black slush that soon stains our roads. If you were to describe how God sees your heart which of the above contrasts would you choose? White and pure like snow? Or covered with dirty stains like slush? It’s not surprising if it’s the second because if we’re honest that’s how God sees all of us. When we do things that are wrong it makes us feel guilty. It gives us a heavy heart and it feels like our guilty actions have covered us inside with dirty stains. Those are not imaginary feelings. That is our conscience saying that as God looks at us He doesn’t see a beautiful sight. Rather He sees something more like black slush covered roads. Yet the wonderful news is that though none of us deserve it, our sin stained hearts, can become like a snow covered landscape. Clean. White. Forgiven. For example a man called David in the bible felt genuinely broken about all the things he had done wrong and he didn’t want to do them again. He wanted to be forgiven. His prayer to God was very simple but heartfelt “Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow” (Psalm 51:7) And God did forgive him and all the things he had done wrong were washed away. And you too can know God’s forgiveness andhave your heart washed clean if you feel as he did: “Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow”
